GlaxoSmithKline Named One of Canada's 50 Best Employers for Fourth Straight Year
MISSISSAUGA, ON (January 3, 2005) - For the fourth consecutive year, GlaxoSmithKline Inc. (GSK) has been named one of the 50 Best Employers in Canada according to an annual survey published by The Globe and Mail's Report on Business Magazine.
"Being ranked one of Canada's 50 Best Employers in a survey that includes significant employee feedback is a great achievement," said Paul Lucas, President and CEO, GlaxoSmithKline. "At GSK, it's our employees that allow us to achieve our goal - to improve the quality of human life. In turn, we're committed to ensuring that we have a workplace that nurtures employee growth and development."
GSK provides a number of employee programs that make the company a great place to work. Among them, the company supports employees in their charitable efforts by matching their donations to local charities and providing grants to charitable organizations where employees volunteer.
GSK also offers unique, Web-based programs to assist employees and their managers in career planning and development. These programs help employees to determine which positions within the company may be ideal for them, and assist them in preparing for those positions.
In addition, GSK offers Medical Education Programs to employees for their own personal health and wellbeing, as well as a work schedule that allows employees to manage their own work hours, year-round.
"We take great pride in the fact that our employees provided such positive feedback," said Ruth Kemp, Vice President, Human Resources. "They are recognizing the fact that their company continually gathers their insights, listens to what they say, and is committed to making their work environment a positive one."
Every year, The Globe and Mail's Report on Business magazine publishes the list of the 50 Best Employers in Canada. The list is generated from the Best Employers in Canada study, conducted annually by Hewitt Associates, a global human resources outsourcing and consulting firm. The goal of the study is to identify "Best Employers" based on feedback from employees, leaders and human resources professionals. It is the only national study in which employees decide the organizations that make the list.
